Bicycle Safety for Children

Bicycle incidents are most likely to occur within five blocks from home and almost half of all bicycle crashes occur in driveways and on sidewalks. “ Brain injury" is the leading cause of death in bicycle crashes, and it` s the leading cause of disability among those who survive. Millville Rescue Squad, SAFE KIDS Cumberland County, and Millville Police Department are dedicated to educating the public. Our main goal is to reduce the number of unintentional injuries and deaths related to Bicycle crashes. On August 30, 2003 children from Cumberland County participated in a Bike Rodeo held at the Millville Rescue Squad. Children learned bike safety tips and navigated an obstacle course with their bicycles. Each child was accompanied by a parent. That was pleasing to see. They also received prizes and refreshments. Everyone had a great time. As a community we can and are making our children safer.
